Q cells may help keep motor neurons in people with ALS healthy by detoxifying the nervous system. Glial restricted precursors (GRPs), Q cells differentiate into healthy astrocytes which in part may help motor neurons survive by mopping up excess glutamate. Q cells are injected directly into the spinal cord via a surgical procedure. A fetal-derived stem cell-based technology, Q cells likely require the co-administration of anti-rejection medicines.
