The MNDA is getting some help to filter out the acronym packed esoteric world of scientific communication..........

http://mndresearch.wordpress.com/

......., this would certainly help to spread greater awareness of the condition with the general public who don't have the time to buy a medical dictionary every time they see MND, ALS, PD, AD, ALD, MS, ETC... . No wonder MND/ALS is one of the best kept secrets in the history of secrets, IMHO.

BTW, AU is 'Both Ears', but I think most people know that.

It would be helpful if we could have 'in a nutshell' precis of PubMed presentations followed by 'what this means for today's layman with MND' interpretations in plain language without codes or graphs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plain_English

i.e. This article (see link below) is relatively baloney free but the essence of the message could be expressed in one sentence.

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/9068542e-b8fd-11e0-bd87-00144feabdc0.html#axzz22k7tb4YE

In a Nutshell

Plants can be inspirational source material for new drugs, but only when chemical science has refined the compounds they contain and proved efficacy by the 'scientific method'.

Conclusion

The expensive dried material available in a jar from the herb shop will do nothing.

Recommendation ?

Donate the money you save (by not buying herbal remedies) to a reputable MND research lab.

Giving the Seahorse a well earned break would also be a step in the right direction.......

...........................

The above is a load of rubbish

Up until the 20th century and for at least 50, 000 years humans have been using and refining the use of herbs for medicine.

Saying they will do nothing is absolute nonsense and makes it sound like the chemical science method is the only way to find out if something works or is efficient?

Humans have been self testing all sorts of things, herbs being just one of them, on themselves since the dawn of mankind.

Even today over half the world still uses herbs due to the cost of medical help.

As for donating money for what, another ceftriaxone trial maybe? - doomed from the start, years wasted and millions of dollars down the drain.

The scientific method does have merit but by the look of things those who are doing it look sloppy and incompetent.

Into the heart, an air that kills, from yon far country blows.
What are those blue remembered hills, what sphires what farms are those.
That is the land of lost content,I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went and cannot come again

Herbs are great in cooking, but I wouldn't rub them on my MND.

ALS is too difficult for herbalists to sort out, but many natural compounds as stated in the link article, can inspire and be put to the test.

My feeling is that mainstream medical science is the only potential source for any type of significant treatments for neurodegenerative illness in the near future, but the problem is that the whole subject has been polluted by commercial stem cell salesmen and assorted purveyors of hocus-pocus.
