My doctors have been telling me that I am deficient in vitamin d. They have been wanting me to take supplements and I have been reluctant. I decided to give it a try and sure enough it's causing problems. It caused my calcium, uric acid, alkaline phosphatase, and phosphorus levels to rise and my bun, iron, and rbc to drop. My dr was insistent that since my vitamin d was low supplementing would not cause my calcium levels to rise. My iron level has dropped significantly. And my tongue has developed atrophic glossitis.

I'm starting to suspect I have vitamin d dysregulation. They tested me for d 25-Hydroxy which was low (20). But from what I have been reading they should have checked d 1,25-Dihydroxy. I also read that your pth would indicate a vitamin d deficiency and my pth is low. There is some problem with the regulation of vitamin d or calcium or both. My PTH levels have been low so it doesn't seem to be a parathyroid disorder.

I'm waiting to get back my d 1,25-dihydroxy result. If this comes back elevated, which I am suspecting it will, I am wondering if anyone knows what this means. Could this be sarcoidosis? I've had my ACE levels checked twice. They are not elevated, but are rising.

Appreciate any ideas. Thanks

Did your doctor check your vitamin d 1,25? If that is high, then you should not take vitamin d supplements because it can cause your sarc to flare. If your vitamin d 1,25 is in the normal range and your regular vitamin d is low, then you do need vitamin d supplement as you are truly vitamin d deficient.
