When a Seven-Year-Old is Your Greatest Reason to Embrace Another Day
Each summer for the past three years, Sarah Coglianese (38 and living with ALS) has put hours, days, and weeks of hard work and precious time into
#whatwouldyougive
, a campaign she calls "an exercise in empathy" in that it challenges people to give up a physical ability to understand what life with ALS might be like. Sarah launched #whatwouldyougive to support research at
ALS TDI
. Since 2015, over $400,000 has been raised.
Sarah is counting on ALS TDI to help her continue to be a mom.
Her daughter Scarlett (7) is the reason she wants her weakened body lifted out of bed and into her wheelchair each morning. And the reason she will keep doing it for as long as she is able.
Sarah believes (and we do too!) that with the help of our global ALS community, we can meet and exceed our 2017 goal of $250K. There are two simple ways to get involved:
Take the
#whatwouldyougive
challenge during
August 1-8.
Give up the use of an ability (e.g. voice, arms, hands, legs) to understand what life with ALS might be like. And ask your networks to donate to your challenge
OR
Simply
make a donation
to the campaign.
What would
you
give to see Sarah continue life as Scarlett's mom?
Sarah would give anything...
Tri-State Trek Races Past Goal!
At 6 a.m. on the morning of June 23, over 200 cyclists rolled out of Boston, the majority of whom were about to ride 270 miles over 3 days, all to raise funds for ALS TDI research. For the most part, mother nature was kind to the riders, crew, and volunteers. On Sunday, riders were joined for the last nine miles into Greenwich, CT by Andrea Peet, Andrew Niblock, and Lisa Cherno, three inspirational individuals currently living with ALS. The weekend was one to remember, especially given that as of today, the Trek has raised
$830,660
!
This is the most raised by this event since its inception! ALS TDI could not be more thankful and more proud of everyone (including Lead Sponsor
MT Pharma!
) who took part in making the Trek a success! Stay tuned to our
Facebook page
for more photos coming soon :)
What's New on the Research Side?
In the first half of 2017, ALS TDI made significant progress, including the validation of two additional potential treatments as clinical candidates in our labs. In addition to those exciting findings, we have made important progress with
AT-1501
this year, including moving toward filing an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the FDA, a significant step before starting clinical trials.
Progress was also made in our
Precision Medicine Program
, the world’s largest collaboration between people with ALS and researchers in the lab. 451 people have now enrolled in the program and data analysis is happening at a rapid pace. The science team is working on several manuscripts outlining the program’s early results, and will present findings at the world’s largest ALS/MND research convention co-hosted by ALS TDI in Boston this December.

Ales for ALS 2017!
Ales for ALS is a national fundraising and awareness program that raises funds for research at ALS TDI. Participating breweries raise money through sales of their unique, limited-edition Ales for ALS beers made from a
blend of experimental hops
donated by B.T. Loftus Ranches and YCH Hops and through proceeds generated from events and
festivals
. Now in its fifth year, Ales for ALS has raised over
$1,250,000
for ALS TDI. This year,
over 100 breweries from 36 states
across the U.S., and one brewery in Japan, are participating in the prog
ram. Check it out
here
