On May 13th from 4:00-10:30 p.m. in the center of campus, the Edgemont school community and the Edgemont Student Government (G.O.) will host Edgemont Aid. Edgemont Aid is an annual event geared toward helping charitable organizations such as the Christopher Reeves Foundation and Free the Children. This year, the proceeds will support ALS Therapy Development Institute. The mission of the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) is to develop effective therapeutics that stop ALS as soon as possible. Focused on meeting this urgent unmet medical need, ALS TDI executes a robust discovery program, as well as a multi-pronged approach to validate potential therapeutics; including small molecules, protein biologics, gene therapies and cell-based constructs. The Institute's unique, industrial-scale platform allows for the development and testing of dozens of potential therapeutics each year. Built by and for patients, the Institute is the world's largest ALS research center and the only nonprofit biotechnology company with more than 30 professional scientists focused on a single disease indication. In addition, the Cambridge, Massachusetts based research Institute collaborates with leaders in both academia and industry. Edgemont Aid is an event open to anyone in the community. It will be an evening of music and entertainment performed by Edgemont High School students. Throughout the night, money will be raised through the sale of tickets, food, T-shirts, raffles, games for younger children, and a silent auction with merchandise donated by local businesses. In years past, the event has been a huge success, raising thousands of dollars for noteworthy foundations. The G.O. is delighted to announce this coming event and anticipates an exciting and fulfilling evening for all.
