Time to #OwnALS this Awareness Month
Yes, May is ALS Awareness Month, but really, what does that mean? Does it mean that we stop being aware on June 1? Does it mean that in May, we are more aware of people in our neighborhood who are living with the disease? Does it mean we are more aware of what the disease does to the body? Here at the ALS Therapy Development Institute ( ALS TDI), we think ALS is unacceptable, and we believe that in order to change the trajectory of this disease, we need much more than awareness. It's bigger than statistics, facts, and definitions. It's about people, their stories, their loved ones, their experiences, their everydays. So, for this month (and beyond!), we challenge you to join us and #OwnALS each and every day. Share a story of someone you know impacted by ALS. Share it with someone at work with whom you rarely connect. Or if someone in line at the coffee shop asks how your day is going, get real with them, and maybe share something about ALS that has impacted you greatly. No-one is judging! Just start talking.
