Getting to the starting line of the TCS New York City Marathon can be nearly as difficult as running the race itself. Options for interested runners to gain entry include a lottery that receives hundreds of thousands of applications, achieving a qualifying time in another marathon or half-marathon, or running at least nine other New York Road Runners races in a calendar year.

An easier option – and one that supports a great cause – is to apply for a bib through the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI). Every year, the TCS New York City Marathon provides ALS TDI with several race bibs to help raise funds to support our essential research to end ALS. Interested runners can apply here for the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon, which will take place on November 3rd. All applications must be received by Wednesday, April 10th.

If selected, each runner will receive automatic entry into the race. Their run will help support ALS TDI’s mission to find effective treatments for ALS with a $5,000 fundraising minimum. Over the years, runners in the TCS New York City Marathon and the United Airlines NYC Half have raised more than $2 million to support ALS research.

In addition to entry into the race, ALS TDI provides other benefits including:

  • Fundraising tips and assistance in creating a peer-to-peer web page for personal fundraising.
  • Virtual 16-week training program provided by 6-Star Abbott World Marathon Majors Award recipient, Neil Gottlieb.
  • Branded training and race apparel.
  • Pre-race "carb load" dinner on Saturday evening, 11/2/2024.
  • Cheer zones along the racecourse to keep runners motivated.
  • Thank you gift.
