In my opinion, they should not wait for FDA approval to begin providing treatments to whomever can afford it. They should beat Dr. Williams at his own game by licensing their Nurown technology to independent clinics around the world. Or is that the other way around?

Brainstorm in the news:

Israel adult stem cell trials - hope for ALS patients?

By Tova Cohen
TEL AVIV | Mon Jul 23, 2012 12:32am EDT

(Reuters) - A clinical trial of ALS patients conducted by BrainStorm Cell Therapeutics shows its adult stem cell therapy is well-tolerated, appears to be safe and does not present undue risk, according to an interim safety review.
Moreover, in some patients signs of stabilization of the disease were detected.

Israel-based BrainStorm is developing NurOwn for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

"It's very uncommon to give at such an early point in a clinical study efficacy data, but we cannot ignore the fact on an individual basis we could see improvement in many of the patients involved, each one in different areas," Moshe Neuman, CEO of Biomedical Research Design, which serves as a contract research organization for the trial, said.

In some patients breathing improved, in others it was muscle strength and in others it was speech, he told Reuters.

Neuman said a final report was expected by the end of the year after each patient has been observed for nine months.

It has been said many times before, but they don't mention 'significantly improved EMG' readings etc.... They are talking about 'perceived improvement' only.

EMG is a bad tool. what it mainly shows are fibrillations and fascics which can be seen even if nerves recover/ I'm not sure if it can distinguish whether the muscle is more or less innervated...I would say the strength amd endurance test is better.

BTW - it is so pathetic that we aresupposed to base on EMG findings which is few decades old...

EMG is described as an important test by the MNDA..........

'Electromyography (EMG): is sometimes called the needle test, because fine needles are used to record the naturally-occurring nerve impulses within certain muscles. Recordings are usually taken from each limb and the bulbar (throat) muscles. Muscles, which have lost their nerve supply, can be detected because their electrical activity is different from normal healthy muscles. The EMG can be shown as abnormal even if that particular muscle is as yet unaffected. It is a very important diagnostic test.'

EMG can show 'improvements' on re-test, IIRC.

( Perceptions of strength and endurance can be colored by emotion, that's why so many patients reported great effects from lithium which in reality was doing nothing ).

i disagree with mnda, emg is a simply "by default" test.
anomalies are detected only in advanced cases of the disease.

I've had 5 emgs dee dee. One at mayo,, one at duke, 3 at different Neuros. All showed normal or not enough to diagnose. And I've had ALS for 9 years. Who knows better? MNDA doesn't , for sure.

I'll tell the MNDA to chuck their EMG machine out of the window immediately.

If you want to follow the progress of the machine getting out into the marketplace looks like they are willing to keep you informed if you want to sign up:

I think its being used in the Neuralstem trial, but I'm not aware of any other trials in which its being used.

The real test for any treatment is how long it lasts, the following quote will likely also be made by Neuraltus when they announce their phase II results:

Quote:
It's very uncommon to give at such an early point in a clinical study efficacy data, but we cannot ignore the fact on an individual basis we could see improvement in many of the patients involved, each one in different areas.

But if the experience from Sodium Chlorite is an indication of NP001's long term effectiveness then it won't be the miracle it at first seemed to be. Moreover, given Ted Herada's posts about how he seems to be progressing again, chances are the subjects in this study will also see only a temporary relief of their progression.

Funny isn't it. I was the eternal optimist, now I'm the one asking people not to be too optimistic. [Angle_Smilies]

If it is done in secret, it is done in vain.

in one video,
we can see the director of brainstorm saying that they think that it would take 3 injections per year to stabilize patients.
So it' s not a cure but a treatment with a big potential

surely ALS will require permanent treatment....like diabetes. I wouldnt count on permanent reversal. Now the case is to establish intevals and dosing (assuming that one works)

PS. I'm surprised that Brainstorm's shares went down to $0.27 a share after the recent announcement that the safety trial was successful. I guess that everyone already knew what they were going to say.

I saw your comments about Neuraluts and OSC. Would you say the same thing about the use of Nuedexta or DM (that the initial excitement might wane)? I saw the threads on them only couple of days ago, upset I did not see it before and trying to see if my non-cooperative young PALS would take it.
Also, regarding EMG, let me add my few cents as a university, NSF researcher with 30 years of experience in these areas (known as signal processing and signal understanding). I do not trust the results given all the complexities involved and the ability (or the lack of it) of the people using them. It has become a money making machine (like buy a EKG and use it every year on each patient etc.). If it is such a gold standard, they don't need to insist that they got to do it themselves (even if done by another equally good neurologist only recently).
I am getting pulled down and begun to accept all as fate. Forget the medicines and treatments!

HP, where can we find Ted Harada's posts about his returning progression?

Thanks.
