| Hello Friends! It’s almost time to get back in the water!
The “Chuch for Three V”, our fifth annual (3.5 mile) swim across-n-back Fern Ridge Lake, is Friday, August 31, 2012. The 3.5 mile swim starts at 7 AM from Steen & Hanne’s shore!
The Chuch for Three swim name honors the special courage and character of my lifelong friend Paul Carr—and his passion to raise money for ALS Research, a rare disease that (currently) has no cure. And while this crippling disease has since taken “Chuch” from us, his spirit is still very much alive with us over the 3.5 mile course we swim … and in our training.

The Swim is not a race, it’s a swim. It’s not big or fancy, just six or seven swimmers each with a trusty kayaker alongside to guide them. The swim is followed by a hearty breakfast at Hanne & Steen’s … and that night by a BBQ in my back yard which, with the help of great friends, now includes Don Schulte Point, a special spot to celebrate another incredible man, Martha’ dad.
We are looking forward to your joining us this year… or next! And whether a swimmer, kayaker, boater, chef, cheerleader and/or donor, we celebrate you on a fun day in Oregon!
Start/Finish Point: Home of Hanne & Steen Bukkehave, 90172 Shore Lane (directions below). Park at the house (dropping any pot luck breakfast items) or down by the shore.
Kayakers: Ready by 6:45 AM … as the two-way swimmers enter the water at 7 a.m. The swim is about a 2½ hours. The early start enables us to get in most of the swim before the lake gets busy.
Swimmers: Allow enough time to get loose and be ready to go at 7 AM. Every swimmer MUST HAVE a kayaker. There will be extra kayakers in the water to help out, as needed.

SWIM: Hanne & Steen Bukkehave 90172 Shore Lane, Eugene, OR 97401
(From Jerry’s on HWY 99) Take 99 (North). Go about ½ mile past Jerry’s—and turn left on Clear Lake Rd. Go about six miles. Turn left onto Barker Rd (almost to Alvadore). Go about 1/3 mile and turn right on Shore Lane. Look for “Chuch 434 sign”. Take second gravel road. The house all the way back (about 1/3 mile) and passes a white house on the right.
BBQ: Big Pine, 86635 Pine Grove Road, Eugene, 97402 (From West 11th)
(From Beltline & West 11th) Go west (right) on West 11th Avenue. Go about 3 miles and TURN LEFT at the Shell Station onto Crow Road. Take Crow Road for exactly three miles and TURN LEFT onto Pine Grove Road. Go .6 mile and TURN LEFT at 86635 Pine Grove. Look for CHUCH 435 sign. Long driveway … BBQ is behind the barn.
