New York, NY –
October 26, 2015 – Digital entertainment
curator FilmBuff announced today that it licensed US
rights to distribute TRANSFATTY
LIVES, Audience Award winner at the Tribeca Film Festival, Milano Film
Festival and the American Film Festival in Poland. The film was also one of the
Top 20 Films at HotDocs International Film Festival. The first non-fiction film
about ALS ever to be made by the subject of the film itself, this inspiring
documentary follows director Patrick Sean O’Brien’s (a.k.a. DJ TransFatty’s)
ten-year journey from the day he was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 30, until
now. The film will be released in theaters and on all
major On Demand platforms starting Friday, November 20, 2015.
Defying sentimentality, TRANSFATTY LIVES takes you on an emotional
rollercoaster from Patrick’s wild, fun-loving days as a DJ and filmmaker into
the dark heart of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). With the support of his
bewildered friends and family, Patrick braves the unthinkable and turns his
camera onto himself. He is able to capture all of the
emotion, humor, and absurdity of real life – falling in love and fathering
a child along the way.
Now
fully paralyzed, and able to communicate solely by computer screen, Patrick
says, “I’m honored to have such great partners to help bring my film’s story of
perseverance to audiences.”
“We here at FilmBuff are honored to be releasing
TRANSFATTY LIVES,” says FilmBuff’s Sam Scupp. “Patrick’s remarkable journey
captures the beauty in life, even when faced with adversity, and I can’t think
of a more inspiring message to deliver to audiences everywhere.”
TRANSFATTY LIVES is directed by Patrick Sean
O’Brien, produced by O’Brien, Michele Dupree, Amelia Green-Dove, Darin
Hallinan, Marcia Mohiuddin and Doug Pray. The film will be available on all
major On Demand platforms including Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, iTunes,
Vudu and Xbox Video, beginning on November 20th, 2015.
The ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI) will also
be hosting a private screening of TRANSFATTY LIVES as a part of their annual
ALS TDI Research Summit on November 13th at the Sheraton Hotel in
Boston.
