To the ALS Community,

I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who donated in response to my letter last week. Your support and commitment to continuing the research at ALS TDI means so much, not only to our science team and staff but to the people who are living with ALS. We are making very difficult decisions here every day, as we face the consequences of COVID-19, but I am incredibly proud to work with a team that is thoroughly aligned on doing whatever is right for the people we serve.

I want to assure the community that our research will not stop. We must continue our mission, no matter what. Over the past week, I have been working closely with our Chief Scientific Officer, Fernando Vieira, M.D., to discuss the implications of COVID-19 and try to determine how we can best move forward.
The epidemic is taking a toll on ALS research in two ways:

1. Due to the need for social distancing, only a limited number of scientists can go into the lab. This does limit our ability to work on certain research projects, while the rest of the team moves things forward, as best as possible, safely from their homes. This IS NOT something that we can all control or change at this time.

2. Due to the cancellation and postponement of our signature and third party fundraising events, our projected revenue has dropped significantly. In the coming months, we may not have the budget to move promising projects forward and research may slow. This IS something that we can control and change, with your help.
If we are able to raise $200,000 by the end of April, we can fix this second problem. This will allow us to maintain the momentum we had established with a cell-based drug discovery screen which was, and still is, being used to identify our most promising potential ALS treatments.

We understand that many people are being impacted by the current situation, but we also know that a serious slow down now could have exponential effects later. We are all dealing with so much.  But this is something that, with the help of this incredible community, we can change.

Limited-Time Donation Match
If we are able to raise $50,000 this week, an anonymous donor has offered to match this amount. If you are able to give, and you want to continue the pace of ALS research, we need your support now. Please donate by 12 p.m. ET on Monday, April 13th to double your impact and support our research.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to ending ALS.
